Happy Saint Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine's Day was a special occasion to Ronald and Nancy Reagan.  In Nancy Reagan's I Love You, Ronnie: The Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan, the former First Lady writes that "Valentine's Day always brought a particularly lovely letter."   One of those letters was from 1960 when Ronald Reagan spoke of him not having a Valentine's Day, but rather a "Valentine's Life" beginning on the wedding anniversary of March 4, 1952.

In his autobiography, An American Life, Ronald Reagan details how during his first year as President, he insisted on going to a local card store to buy a gift for Valentine's Day.  The Secret Service were opposed to the idea, yet President Reagan won the debate. Unfortunately, it caused such commotion to arrange that Ronald Reagan didn't shop too often anymore as President.

To celebrate the day, please enjoy these two You Tube videos. The first is from a fellow fan who has made a special music tribute.  The second is from a 1973 Dean Martin television show commemorating Ronald Reagan's life with a special appearance by Nancy Reagan.  Happy Saint Valentine's Day!
